Preparing the product for self-service
Rio ESG provide software, consultancy and help organisations set, track and report on their sustainability goals.
It's not all about Net Zero. Workshops with customers and in-house consultants verified a diversity in sustainability goals across organisations.
I conceptualised 'Missions' as a new self-service feature to cater for that variety in the market. It helped different customers understand, set, track and manage sustainability goals themselves.
I modernised the software's aesthetic to ensure appeal in a larger, self-service market (including the establishment of a new Design System to aid interface consistency and future development).
I delivered four new features in four months - Surveys, Flows, a new Data section and Impact (a new dashboard). All were designed with the customer problem and flexibility in mind to ensure value across different types of customer (from government departments to private equity companies).
I also delivered a dark mode as a more eco-friendly interface for a sustainability company.

Figma zoomed out to show full scope of the commercial release of 'Surveys' (following successful demo release in first month of contract). The feature was adopted by Patron Capital & IFRS soon after release.

'Surveys' feature backlog candidates, created with the Head Of Product & CTO based on our rapid assessment of customer value vs. opportunity cost. I always advocate for MVP and then optimisation to ensure value in the short term & increasing quality over time.

Users had to keep clicking in and out of sections and they were also having to manage certain tasks in a spreadsheet off platform. My wires for a new Data section addressed these problems.

The end result speed up ops and helped users find gaps in their data collection.

'Missions' was feature I conceptualised so that product could cater for the diversity within the sustainability market, empowering self-service customers to choose and manage their own.

I redesigned the the platform dashboard so it better supported the customer at different parts of their journey (from recognition to renewal).
